LOVE IS MUCH BIGGER THAN A FEELING

This is my personal site. UpSpiral is my company. Anything here that points you toward UpSpiral is me recommending my own work.

There are days when love arrives easily.

The heart is open.

The world feels near.

We can feel the goodness of the people around us.

And then there are other days.

We’re irritated.

Defended.

Angry.

Someone says the wrong thing and suddenly the great spiritual master we imagined ourselves to be has left the building.

Good.

This belongs too.

Wholeness isn’t the permanent achievement of beautiful feelings.

It’s the capacity to remain present when the beautiful feelings disappear.

Anger belongs.

Grief belongs.

Resentment belongs.

The part of you that wants everyone to leave you alone for five minutes belongs.

None of these are evidence that you’ve fallen out of alignment.

They’re movements within a much larger life.

And maybe love isn’t one particular feeling inside that life.

Maybe love is the room big enough to hold all of it.

This changes something.

You don’t have to exile the angry part to become loving.

You don’t have to silence the frightened part to become whole.

And you don’t have to climb out of your humanity to become spiritual.

Come closer instead.

Be with what’s here.

Listen.

Let the frightened one be frightened.

Let the angry one tell you what matters.

Let grief reveal what you’ve loved.

And underneath all these changing weather systems, notice what remains:

The awareness that can hold them.

The presence that hasn’t gone anywhere.

You’re not any one piece of the weather.

You’re the whole sky.
