STOP WAITING FOR LIFE TO GIVE YOU PERMISSION

This is my personal site. UpSpiral is my company. Anything here that points you toward UpSpiral is me recommending my own work.

Maybe feeling good

isn't the reward

waiting at the far end

of a life finally arranged

to our satisfaction.

Maybe it's one of the ways

we participate

in what's arriving.

There is the world

we are given.

And there is the world

we're continually meeting

with our attention.

And somewhere between the two

a life is being made.

What we turn toward

begins to become more visible.

What we welcome

finds somewhere to land.

What we love

becomes easier to recognize.

And maybe this is why

a moment of genuine ease

is never merely a moment of ease.

It's an opening.

A small door in the day

through which more life

can enter.

MOST OF US HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO LIVE THIS EQUATION BACKWARD

When the money comes, I’ll relax.

When the relationship comes, I’ll feel loved.

When my body changes, I’ll feel good.

When the problem is solved, I’ll feel safe.

When my life finally looks the way I want it to look, then I’ll let myself enjoy being here.

We make feeling good the reward for getting reality right.

But what if feeling good isn’t merely the reward?

What if feeling good is part of how we participate in creation?

There is something profound in the idea that whenever I’m feeling good, I’m attracting good.

Not because feeling good is payment to the universe.

And not because grief, anger, fear, or pain mean that you’re somehow doing manifestation wrong.

This is something subtler:

Your inner life isn’t separate from the life you’re creating.

Attention is participation.

The things we repeatedly turn toward become more available to us.

And this changes the question.

Instead of:

How do I get the thing that’ll finally allow me to feel good?

We can begin asking:

Where is the feeling I’m seeking already available to me?

Not all of it.

Not forever.

Not as some spiritual performance.

Just here.

Now.

Where is there 2% more ease?

Where is beauty?

Where is there something you genuinely appreciate?

Where can you laugh?

Where can you say:

Yes. Thank you. More of this.

Because the life you want is ultimately not a collection of objects and circumstances.

You want those things because of the experience of being alive you imagine they'll give you.

Freedom.

Love.

Abundance.

Connection.

Beauty.

Peace.

Creativity.

And here is the extraordinary possibility:

Those qualities aren’t imprisoned in your future.

They’re available in degrees now.

The future doesn’t hold the patent on freedom.

The relationship doesn’t own love.

The bank account doesn’t own abundance.

The achievement doesn’t own worthiness.

The destination doesn’t own aliveness.

Touch those things now.

Practice receiving them now.

FEELING GOOD IS THE POINT AND THE PATH.

You’re not feeling good so you can manipulate the universe into giving you what you want.

You’re allowing yourself to experience more of the very life you thought you had to wait for.

And from THERE, you create.

You become available to possibilities you couldn’t see while staring only at what was missing.

And then

give Source some room.

You don’t have to figure out every bridge between here and there.

Your job isn’t to wrestle the future into submission.

Your job is to become increasingly available to life.

TODAY’S PRACTICE

Sometime today, stop for 30 seconds.

Don’t ask:

How do I get what I want?

Ask:

What feels genuinely good that’s already here?

Find one thing.

Stay with it.

Don’t rush past it.

Actually receive it.

And then say:

Yes. Thank you. More of this.

And leave a little room for life to answer.
