THE STORY YOU ARE LIVING INSIDE

This is my personal site. UpSpiral is my company. Anything here that points you toward UpSpiral is me recommending my own work.

There is the life that is happening.

And then there is the story you are telling about the life that is happening.

We forget how different these are.

Something occurs. Someone leaves. Money gets tight. The body changes. A relationship becomes difficult. A plan falls apart.

And almost immediately, the mind begins writing.

This always happens to me.

Nothing ever works.

People can't be trusted.

Maybe this is just who I am.

Because the story has been told before, it begins to feel less like a story and more like reality.

But what happened and what it means are not the same thing.

This is where freedom begins.

You can honor what happened without requiring it to become a prophecy. You can grieve yesterday without appointing it the author of tomorrow.

YOU ARE LARGER THAN THE STORY YOU LEARNED TO TELL.

Your nervous system learns through repetition. Expectations shape what you notice, what you anticipate, and how you respond. A story rehearsed often enough becomes a familiar pathway through the world.

But familiarity is not destiny.

You can begin telling a story that leaves more room for life.

TRY ONE OR MORE OF THESE ON FOR SIZE:

Wouldn’t it be nice if this turned out better than I expected?

I wonder what might be possible here that I haven’t considered yet.

I’m curious what could happen if I stopped assuming I know how this ends.

There is already so much in my life that is working. I wonder if this could begin working too.

I appreciate how much support already exists around me. Maybe some of that support can find its way here.

I don’t know how this is going to resolve, and I’m beginning to like the possibility that I don’t have to know how.

Something in me suspects this could be easier than I’ve been making it.

Maybe the past has already taught me everything it needed to teach me.

I can imagine waking up one morning and realizing this isn’t a problem anymore.

It feels good to remember that circumstances can change quickly.

There may be people, resources, conversations, and opportunities already moving toward me that I know nothing about.

I’m willing to be surprised by how well this goes.

I like the idea that I don’t have to manufacture the whole solution myself.

Perhaps my job is simply to know what I want and stay available to what comes.

I can feel how different it is to look toward what I want instead of continually checking for what I fear.

There are probably a hundred ways this could unfold that I haven’t imagined.

I wonder what Source can do with this if I give it some room.

Maybe this chapter isn’t asking me to figure everything out. Maybe it’s asking me to stop writing the ending before I get there.

These small openings matter.

Because now you are no longer rehearsing only what you fear. You are making yourself available to possibility.

Not by pretending.

Not by forcing yourself to believe something you don’t believe.

By loosening your grip on the idea that the past already knows the future.

Notice what is working. Name what you want. Let yourself imagine a life beyond the boundaries of what has already happened.

And then leave some room for Source.

The old story may still speak. You don’t have to fight it. You can understand why some part of you learned to tell it and still choose not to build tomorrow from it.

The past can inform you without defining you.

Life has not finished writing with you yet. ☀️
